The question arose how to replace them? The authorities of Leipzig decided to make a Park-promenade encircling the city. Breakdown the square by the architect Dauthe was held in 1785. Reconstruction of the square began after the demolition of the city gate in 1831. Augustusplatz became one of the most beautiful squares in Germany.
